Why have we decided to write a blog.

Welcome to our blog. We are Cath and Mel, a couple of 50+ women who have discovered the fantastic world of travelling in a motorhome. We aren’t complete newbies as over the years, we’ve had several vans starting with a VW, but that was a long time ago when we were cool! But we aren’t cool anymore, just old and so now have a traditional motorhome who is called Ethel. These are our stories as we journey around the UK and Ireland.

Whilst we hope our antics are interesting to you, there is another reason for writing a blog. For unknown reasons and out of the blue, Cath has been diagnosed with ‘accelerated long term forgetting’ with specific focus on places, faces and events. This manifests itself in Cath not being able to remember things that have happened, people she has met and events she has attended after around 3 months. It is an unusual condition and although probably related to epilepsy, no one really knows why it is happening or what has caused it.

The inability to remember such important life events causes great frustration and sadness for both Cath and Mel as they have an amazing life together but as Cath can’t remember where she went on holiday a year down the line, they can’t enjoy recalling the memories.

It is hoped that by writing about the small things which happen when they are on their travels, it may help Cath to relive the emotions of the time and allow the memory to live longer. That’s the plan anyway! If it doesn’t help at all, no worries as I’m sure the reader will manage a laugh anyway.
